Machine Setter (Production)

Full time permanent position

Overall Objective

  • Setting and general maintenance of Flat-Flex and Flex-Turn machines and other associated production equipment
  • Stage and final inspections of products

Main Role & Responsibilities

Set Flat-Flex and Flex-Turn machines efficiently in order to achieve the best possible quality of product.

Provide general support and assistance to Machine Operators/Weavers to ensure they:

  • Carry out their role effectively
  • Achieve required efficiencies and targets to earn bonus
  • Produce good quality measured work

Note: The Setter bonus payment is based on the quality and output of the Machine Operator/Weavers.

Ensure that all manufacturing equipment and tooling is kept in good order.

Attend machines in the event of a breakdown.

If authorised to do so, carry out fault finding, (non-electrical) and limited maintenance of Flat-Flex and Flex Turn machines and other associated production equipment – dependent on experience and production demands.

Inspect product whilst on machines in accordance with inspection procedures to ensure that the highest quality standards are met and maintained.

Carry out final and stage inspection of product and record any over / under production, scrap and rework.

Ensure that belt produced is of a suitable standard for use in a hygienic environment – free from excess oil, dirt and debris and material defects.

Draw raw material (wire) from stores, load onto machines and record the information as per company procedures.

Ensure that good stock levels are maintained for tooling, consumables and spare parts.

Always work to lean principles to be efficient in the tasks that are required to be carried out and to minimize waste where practicable.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure that procedures in all relevant areas comply with the company Quality Manual / ISO 9001 requirements – Where necessary, revise a procedure, take appropriate action to have the Quality / ISO 9001 manual officially updated.
  • Ensure that records maintained in all areas are accurate and sufficient for use within the company’s MRP system and for external auditors purposes.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe, clean and tidy work area and ensure that safe working procedures are adhered to.
  • Comply with Health & Safety Legislation and company procedures.
  • Comply with company Environmental Procedures and Environmental legislation.
  • To ensure that all tools and equipment are in good condition and well maintained.
  • To use personal protective work wear and equipment provided.
  • To carry out other reasonable tasks, i.e. Machine operating, Weaving and assist with work in other departments when required by the Manufacturing Operations Manager or Team Leader.

Education/Qualifications/Experience

  • Previous experience in an engineering / maintenance role plus working in a factory / manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical / Maintenance based Apprenticeship or something similar would be desirable.
  • Previous Setter experience
  • Good level of education
