Machinist Fitter (Manufacturing)

Full time hours, permanent

Overall Objective

To set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and components used in the manufacture of conveyors and special purpose equipment.

Main Role & Responsibilities

• Set and operate all engineering equipment and specialist machinery including mills, lathes, gearcutters, grinders and drills for the manufacture of conveyors and special purpose equipment.
• Ensure that all tools and equipment used are in good condition, well maintained and available for use.
• To operate Fuji Auto Lathes to assist with the manufacture of sprockets.
• When required assist in the manufacture of sprockets and blanks including tapping and drilling
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of instruments such as micrometer’s, vernier caliper’s, plug gauges etc.
• Identify tooling requirements.
• Measure, examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers.
• Carry out other reasonable tasks required by the Team Leader and Unit Manager, including assisting when requested with other work allocated by other departments.
• Maintain a safe and tidy work area and ensure that safe working procedures are adhered to, including the use of personal protective workwear.
• Ensure that procedures in all relevant areas comply with the Company Quality Manual, and where it is necessary to revise a procedure, highlight it to the Team Leader or Unit Manager who will take appropriate action to have the Quality / ISO 9001 manual officially updated.
• Comply with health & safety legislation and company procedures.

Education/Experience

• Experience of working in a factory / manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of engineering
• Handfitting or bench skills
• Ability to read engineering drawings
• Good level of Education
• Ability to be cross trained / multi-skill
